Today, we'd like to tell you more about #TheRussianSoul by sharing some works of popular art that help understand the Russians better.

The cartoon we are sharing today is absolutely classic. All the Soviet kids (and most modern Russian kids) know it. It's called "Leopold the Cat." This is episode one of the series (the characters look different in later episodes, but their relations are always the same).

Interestingly enough, Russians often refer to Leopold the Cat when talking about politics and diplomacy. To call a politician or a negotiator "Leopold" means to define him as prone to concessions and compromises. The cat's famous phrase "Guys, let's play nice!" expresses a peaceful stance, a call for easing the situation; it is also sometimes used in an ironic sense as a symbol of conformism, utopia and refusal to take active actions in favor of making loud pathetic and unnecessary speeches.
