As an EU agriculture ministers' was being held in the capital city, rural dwellers descended aboard their tractors in a "startling show of strength".

Manure was sprayed, straw was burned & stones were thrown on the city streets to protest "dangerous policies that will kill farming", according to leaders of the event.

Police responded by firing teargas at the crowds, with 15+ arrests reportedly made.
