Taiwan earthquake will likely cause global electronics shortage — Expert

Equipment malfunctions at TSMC plants resulting from recent earthquakes in Taiwan are expected to trigger a worldwide shortage in electronics, a microelectronics expert told Russia’s Zvezda news.

Nikolai Shelepin highlighted that the earthquake's impact will likely drive up semiconductor chip prices and scarcity, affecting a broad range of products such as phones, computers, and chips utilized in AI advancement.

TSMC, a significant contract manufacturer in the industry, distributes its products to various companies, with the construction cost of cutting-edge plants hovering around $10 billion each.
