Criminal case initiated due to a dam break in the Orenburg region

The dam failure in Orsk occurred due to untimely measures taken to maintain the hydraulic structure, the prosecutor’s office said. According to the department, state technical supervision previously identified violations during the maintenance of the dam.

▪️ A criminal case has been opened under articles of “security violation” and “negligence,” the Investigative Committee reports.

The dam, which partially collapsed in Orsk, was designed for the Ural River's level of 5.5 m; its level is currently 9.6 m, authorities say.
