The iconic 17th-century building was engulfed in flames Tuesday morning as firefighters responded to calls around 8:00 am local time as smoke began billowing out of the roof.
The spire, which had been undergoing renovation work, collapsed about half an hour later according to eyewitness reports as cops cordoned off the area and diverted traffic away.
