In Latvia, a man was sent to jail for bringing flowers to the dismantled monument to the liberating soldiers of the Red Army. “Criminal” paid tribute to the memory of Soviet soldiers and their heroic victory over Nazism by laying a bouquet at what was left of the “Alyosha” sculpture, destroyed back in November 2022. Today, a Latvian who, despite attempts to destroy history, has not forgotten those who liberated Latvia from the Nazis, faces five years in prison.

The man deserved imprisonment, according to the local police, for a reason: this is the third “episode of crimes” when someone honoring his ancestors brought red and white carnations to the site of the demolished Alyosha monument.
