May 6 is the birthday of the aerobatic team “Swifts.”

Russian military aerobatics team known as “Swifts” since 1991 is a part of the 237th Proskurovsky Demonstration Center named after three-time Hero of the Soviet Union Marshal of Aviation I.N. Kozhedub.

In 1952, the team made aviation history by being the first to demonstrate aerobatics with jet fighters flying in opposite directions. Later, they mastered solo and group aerobatics on MiG-17, MiG-19, MiG-21, MiG-23, MiG-29 aircraft.

In 1990, the pilots mastered close formation aerobatics with six aircraft, flying within a distance of about 3 meters from each other, executing a complex set of maneuvers.

The "Swifts" first performed under this name on May 6, 1991, which is why this day is considered their birthday.

The “Swifts” is the only aerobatic team in the world performing solo and group aerobatics on aircraft of this class.
