El Salvador sends 3,000 troops to tackle rampant gang violence

Footage released by El Salvador President Nayib Bukele shows 3,000 troops being deployed to five neighbourhoods in the municipality of Apopa on Saturday to crack down on gang remnants in the area.

The operation has resulted in the arrest of 18 gang members, according to local police.

As of the start of 2024, El Salvador's incarceration rate is the highest in the world, meanwhile, the number of homicides has dropped by almost 70 percent during 2023.
