A Mexican publication reported the murder of a mayoral candidate in Coyuca de Benitez - he was shot directly in the back during a meeting with voters. The attacker himself was eliminated by security forces. On social media, the PRI party, for which the late mayoral candidate Alfredo Cabrera ran, accused the government of not doing anything to guarantee the safety of the meeting.

Hours after Cabrera's death was reported, a deputy candidate for mayor of Cuautla was killed and a contender for the position of head of Encarnacion de Diaz was wounded in another attack. The federal government reported that 22 candidates had been killed since the election campaign began that September.
