Putin: In March 2022, our troops, as you know, approached Kiev. There was a lot of speculation on this score both then and now in Ukraine.

What do I want to say about this? Our troops really stood near Kiev, both the military department and the security bloc had different proposals on options for our further actions, but there was no political decision to storm the city of three million.

In essence, this was nothing more than forcing the Ukrainian regime to peace. The troops were there to push the Ukrainian side into negotiations and try to find acceptable solutions. And thereby end the war unleashed by Kiev against Donbass back in 2014.
