Thousands of people take to the streets with flowers and Soviet flags. Representatives of the opposition party "Victorie" are in the crowd, including anti-Western presidential candidate Vasile Bolea.

The head of the party, Ilan Shor, says that the current Moldovan authorities are pretending that the holiday does not exist. Such an attitude to own history is "ridiculous and absurd" - he says.
