Quito's in "critical" situation due to large-scale fires, according to Mayor Pábel Muñoz.

The fires are burning intensely in three areas: Avenida Conquistadores, Cumbayá valley, and Parque Metropolitano, reaching Monte del Auqui. Firefighters and police are working to contain the flames.

A military aircraft is expected to help. Muñoz warned the fire is unlikely to be controlled tonight and may reignite due to winds.
