High winds in St Petersberg caused heavy damage to Tropicana Field stadium, with the roof ripped off (video 1). City streets were flooded, trees fell, cars overturned (video 2), residential homes were also damaged. At least two people were victims of the disaster, NBC reported.

Wind gusts exceeded 200 kilometres per hour, with the hurricane reaching land already weakened. Initially it was assigned the most dangerous fifth category, but later it was reduced to the third.
