10 million Cubans left without electricity after power plant shutdown

In Cuba, the Antonio Guiteras thermal power plant has failed, leading to power outages throughout the country. The failure occurred at 11 a.m. local time (1p.m. GMT), the ministry said. Restoration work is underway.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez instructed Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz to inform residents about the emergency energy situation. The head of government said that the main reasons for the shortage of generation were the lack of fuel, the state of infrastructure and the growth in demand.
