Cuba battles to bring power back after blackouts

After over 48 hours of almost total nationwide power failure, two thermoelectric power stations were brought back online Saturday, with two more expected to be functional by Sunday.

The national power grid still only has 500 megawatts, compared to the usual 3 gigawatts. Officials have branded the current power crisis - driven by low fuel, poor maintenance of stations and high demand - the island’s worst in at least two years.
