Putin: 'Green barriers' are a tool to restrain emerging markets

The "green barriers" that some countries are beginning to create for emerging markets are a new tool to restrain their development, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"Regarding the artificial barriers for developing economies tied to the environmental agenda - yes, these so-called ‘green barriers’ that some countries are starting to put up for developing states and emerging markets are simply a new tool they've invented to hold back progress," Putin said at the Valdai Forum Plenary Session.

The president emphasized that developed countries using the green agenda in their policies should, in that case, provide developing nations with necessary funding and access to technology.
