France doesn't have much to laugh about these days, so it can thank Australia for this.

As a reminder, in 2021 Australia stabbed France in the back by cancelling, without prior warning, a $66 billion contract to build submarines in order - as per the AUKUS deal - to buy US submarines instead.

However it's now becoming clearer and clearer that the US will never be able to deliver the AUKUS subs. So there's now - 3 years afterwards - growing calls to cancel the AUKUS submarines contract and go back to the French.

And what is this all for? To "protect" itself from... China, its largest trading partner. As the famous Utopia skit goes (see next tweet): "This whitepaper is recommending we spend close to $400B over the forward estimate to protect our trade with China, from China. And that doesn't strike anyone at this table as odd?"
